WHAT THE CRITICS HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT LUIZ'S CD "NEW CHORINHOS FROM BRAZIL"
"(Luiz's) playing is sassy, clear, vibrant, yet understated, (and) his music ...sounds fresh, smart, and witty" - Titus Levis, Keyboard Magazine.
"… A great meld of classical with modern that creates a fantastic sound".
The Critical Review.
"By far the very Best choro release [in the US] in recent years. All titles composed and superbly performed by Luiz Simas on the piano." "Each time I hear the CD "New Chorinhos from Brazil" I end up using the repeat mode of my CD player. " Egídio Leitão, Luna Kafé.
The chorinhos are fresh and inspirational. "Teimosa" (Stubborn Gal) is my favorite. It's stylish with a light breezy romantic feel and makes me smile every time I hear it. "Chorinho das Comadres" (Godmothers’ Chorinho) and "Saltitante" (Skipping Tune) are also in the same league. The more introspective "Do Coração" (From the Heart) and "Chorinho do Mar" (Chorinho of the Sea) offer a wonderful balance to the faster pieces with their slower reflective quality. The wild and unpredictable "Endiabrado" (Devilish Tune) is my least favorite however it's technically very sophisticated. It has a haunting melody that surfaces every now and again and the piece ends with a crash of discordancy. I must confess it is growing on me the more I play it. I can recommend this CD to anyone, particularly those who love the piano.
